Exciting New Travel App Marketed at Over-50s

One of the things that many people get to really enjoy once they reach 50 is their ability to travel. At this age, not only are people in a more financially suitable place to travel, but they might also have more time to set off and explore the world, and this means that they have endless opportunities when it comes to choosing where to go, and what they are going to do once they get there.

With that being said, travel also comes with a variety of headaches, particularly at the planning phase, so it is no wonder SAGA Travel decided to create and launch the MySaga Holiday App, and market it to this group of individuals.

Creating Technology for the People

According to the creators of the app, travels will be able to use the technology to see all of the finer details included in their trip and look up the weather, among other features. The site also allows travellers to book their own excursions while they were away from home. These features came after the company decided to ask over 9,000 over 50s travellers about what they wanted in a holiday app, and the company has most certainly listened.

As the results of the survey suggested, almost 90% of the respondents stated that being able to access flight information was a top priority, while 83% stated that it was important for them to have their cruise ship information on hand. 82% of the respondents said that they felt having a summary of the holiday they had booked was integral.

Not only has the app enabled users to access information relating to the holiday goer’s getaway, but they have also made it possible for them to pay the balance of their trip via the app itself.

The Future of Travel

According to the travel company, 3 out of 4 over 50s are making use of a smartphone or tablet and around 13% of individuals are currently utilizing the holiday app. According to chief executive Andrew Strong, the app allows for individuals to make changes to their holiday quickly and easily, and improve their overall experience of this getaway.

With technology making just about everything from navigation to connecting people around the world that much easier, isn’t it about time that technology be brought into the realm of holiday making, to take all the strain out of world travel? It seems a savvy group of over 50s would agree.

  1. I’ve never heard of this app, but I will certainly look into it. I don’t travel all that much right now, but am planning to in the future. When I do travel, the issues mentioned, such as looking into itinerary, making payments, and particularly weather and flight information, are all ones that I struggled with, especially mid-travel. Being able to identify, learn about, and book local attractions in whatever area I’ve traveled to would also be on that list. I’m going to be discussing this with my travel companions, as I know they would also be interested.

  2. It’s amazing how the world has changed in the last thirty years! Booking a holiday back then meant a trip to a travel agent and time spent searching through printed catalogues and travel company guides for locations and hotels. A knowledgeable clerk/adviser then either telephoned booking agents to make your reservations or searched specialist online databases available only to the industry.

Now we are free to search the world from our mobile phones and book at the best possible prices ourselves. I suspect the major benefit of this app will be to bring all our holiday information together in one place, which isn’t always easy to do and I do like the idea of being able to book onto trips and excursions whilst on the actual holiday.

  3. Traveling is one of my very favorite things to do! I will have to admit that I’m not much of an app person, but I can see that changing in the future, so I keep notes of things like this.

There are some things concerning “new technology” that can get rather frightening but things like this that make life so much easier are incredibly amazing to me!

I think that paying the balance of your trip through this app is one of the most important features… so many things can happen while traveling that have the potential to turn into absolute travel nightmares. 🙁

    1. I can’t wait to start traveling again..my husband is handicapped and we have been kinda cooped up for awhile..we can’t wait to get out there…I just turned 50 in February

  4. It’s amazing that close friends just came back for a get-away together. And they were regaling us about how great the country place accommodation they stayed in for 2 nights. They showed my husband and me the Travel Apps and suggested that we get one.

In the Travel App ads, the prices really drop down to 50 % off the regular market value! They all looked tempting for a holiday plan for my husband and me– very soon.

It has been a while since we’ve had a holiday trip together, just the two of us.

  5. This is awesome! One thing I’ve found really difficult is encouraging my mom to do the things that once made her happy. My dad passed about six months ago, and it’s been hard for all of us, especially for my mom of course. New technology like this is incredible, and I think it’s instrumental in showing the world that over 50’s are just as alive as everyone else – perhaps more so. I’ll definitely pass this article on to my mom, and hopefully she’ll be able to make use of it. 🙂

  6. I think it’s great that we are able to use mobile apps to plan and book holidays, because it is something that a lot of people want to do but many don’t know how to. Over 50s should be able to do things like that, because they have worked since they were young, and have hopefully been able to put some money to one side. So yes, I think this app is great news indeed, and over 50s should look forward to enjoying holidays in the future!
